About me

Hi! My name is Boris and I can help you improve your Slovak language. I have a passion for languages and helping people achieve their language goals. I believe that learning a language should be fun and interesting, so I prefer to tailor my lessons to the interests of my students.

I'm currently studying English/Slovak translation, and I previously studied Fine Arts at the AFAD in Bratislava and DIT in Dublin.

I'm a bit of a nerd, and I'm very interested in culture, film, music and literature. I also like sports and board games + video games.

I have taught group English lessons at language schools, both online and in person, and also business English at different companies for 2 years before teaching Slovak.

I have been teaching Slovak online since 2021. My classes are mostly geared towards adults, but I have experience teaching school age children (12+) as well.

My lessons are communicative, and I try to get my students to speak a lot, but we also analyze the language and work with a textbook.

For conversational classes, we generally choose a topic to converse on, focus on building vocabulary, idioms and work on your specific language needs.

I really liked Boris’s patient and non-intimidating approach to teaching and has a great sense of humour. He matches my learning style, improving my gramatical and vocabulary skills. We practice with regular and challenging activities and conversations, and explore the the language’s various nuances and complexities. After 6 months of lessons, Boris has helped to substantially improve my confidence and skill, allowing me to interact with Slovakians on a day to day basis without resorting to speaking English or referring to my google translator all the time.

Lessons with Borris have always been engaging and entertaining. He has always been willing to answer questions to help my journey with the Slovak language, and is always able to give me a detailed answer. His patience, despite my struggle with the language at first, is an aspect of his to admire. In my humble opinion, I could not ask for a better tutor!

Boris is very thorough in his lessons, he teaches similarly as a teacher would in a college course. He makes understanding basics easy especially for such a hard language like Slovak. I am retaining my information and he makes me feel confident with my pronunciations as well as providing real life examples for helping me understand certain topics

Been working with Boris for a number of months now - he tailors the lessons to my pace and the exercises to my weak spots. He has a deep understanding of the mechanics of the language (grammar, etc), which make it much easier to learn. Absolutely recommend

Perfect if you're looking to start from scratch or refresh the basics. Focus is on building basic vocabulary, elementary communication and understanding basic grammar and concepts behind the language.

Conversational Slovak

Geared towards learners that already know some Slovak and are looking to improve their speaking skills, mainly speaking and listening. Focus can be on improving fluency, accuracy, or vocabulary. We can converse on any topic that you need or interests you.
