    About me

Hello! My name is Rachel. I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I speak Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Spanish. Languages have always fascinated me. Nothing brings me more joy than the idea of helping others experience this same passion.

Growing up in a Chinese school, I made it a point to improve my English through self-study. Starting from barely being able to speak a word, I worked my way up until people would mistake me for a native speaker.

My love for languages continued and led me to Central America, where I spent 6 months backpacking to learn Spanish.

Language learning makes me feel truly alive. Through my own journey of learning languages outside of traditional classroom settings, I've gained valuable insights that I'm excited to share with future students, helping them discover their own path to language mastery.

My experience as a private English tutor for high school students in Hong Kong has given me valuable insights into the unique challenges and needs of language learners in this context. This hands-on teaching experience, combined with my own language learning journey, has equipped me with practical strategies to help students succeed.

First up I just want to point out that Cantonese is a really challenging language to learn. So if you are looking into learning, or are already learning Cantonese, give yourself a pat on the back! I admire you. I want you to feel the joy I feel when I learn languages. Learning should be an adventure, not a chore, and I'm here to guide you on that exciting journey. I promise you will leave my classroom with a big smile on your face ;)

Rachel has been a great teacher so far! She's super friendly and approachable and has a very impressive level of English, which makes her explanations easy to understand. She tailors the lessons to suit my needs, creates custom learning content, and produces notes so I can review what we've covered. Looking forward to more lessons!

Rachel is truly a one-of-a-kind tutor. She strikes the perfect balance between offering insightful advice, truly listening, and being deeply invested in her students progress. Even her ability to correct language in a way that feels supportive is a rare and wonderful quality. She's an incredibly talented teacher and communicator, and I wouldn't have any doubts referring her to friends and family.
